Episode Transcription

Today, life in our world is instant, immediate, often oppressive and anxiety-inducing. It moves at a faster pace than any one of us could hope to keep up with, though still we try, with daily doses of TikTok, tenacious tweeting, endless video chats, snapchats, and Instagram stories. Yet once upon a time, the world moved at a slower pace. This was a time when wandering storytellers - called bards - travelled from village to village, town to town, bringing news, and songs, and fantastical tales wherever they went. And everywhere they went, people came together; they gathered round a fire, and listened to the bard’s story, escaping through those tales into other worlds, full of adventure, mystery, love, and heartbreak; worlds in which their worries and anxieties could be left far behind. Stories from the Hearth is a podcast for those sorts of people, for people longing to escape the unremitting speed of the everyday, to slow things down, and to indulge in that most simple, primal, and wholesome of pastimes: listening along with others, to the telling of a good story. So come, gather 'round the fire, and lose yourself in tales of another world... Story episodes of Stories from the Hearth, which feature original fiction and immersive soundscapes, are released on the last Sunday of every month. Educational episodes, entitled The Wandering Bard, which explore the history of storytelling and the people behind it, are released on the second Sunday of every month. The show’s artwork is by Anna Ferrara, everything else is the work of Calum Bannerman.
